1. Why Your Response Matters

Getting served with a protection order can be stressful, but you’re not alone. If you respond the right way and on time, you help the judge see your side and protect your rights. While it is not required to send your response to the Petitioner before the hearing, it may a good idea. If the other party does not get it ahead of time, the judge might delay the hearing to give them time to read it, which means more waiting for you. It is also essential that your response must be filed and served properly, a certain number of court days before your hearing.

2. What Goes in Your Response Packet

Some ideas for what to include:

-Written Declaration: This is your side of the story. Be clear, stick to the facts, include any important dates or events.

-Cover Sheet: A document listing everything being submitted. This is like a table of contents for the court.

-Supporting Evidence: Attach things like screenshots, photos, messages, or police reports.

-Proof of Service Form: This shows the other party received your documents which will be filled out after   a private process server has served your documents.

3. Where to File in Snohomish County

Snohomish County District Court has four locations. You must file in the division where the original Petition was filed.

Evergreen:  14414 179th Ave SE, Monroe, WA
